Addictions

Addiction is characterised by the repeated use of a substance or behaviour. All addictions are purposeful i.e. there is always something that is trying to be achieved by the addictive behaviour. Quite commonly addictive behaviours are indulged in to escape uncomfortable or painful emotions and feelings. The addictive behaviour provides temporary relief for these uncomfortable feelings and as a consequence the need to repeat the behaviour continues.
